Sailing Sine Metu

~ It was a dream. A singlehanded sailing adventure to the Sea of Cortez; six months of cruising and writing, but years of prep only got me 25-days. A small sailboat on the big blue was no match for an angry sea.

Down to the waterline… What could go wrong?

Ever wonder how much stuff, crap, food, beer, and water can get stuffed into a Columbia 24? Here’s a partial list of what edibles went in today and most of the supplies already onboard:
  • 48 gallons of water (in 16, 3-gallon Aquabricks*)
    • Enough for 1.5-gallons of water per day
  • 180 days of breakfast supplies
    • 6, 56-oz cans of Nido powdered milk
    • 10, 1-lb bags Italian Roast coffee
    • 5, 20-oz bags Italian Roast coffee
    • 22, 40-oz bags Bob’s Red Mill Muesli*
  • Snacks
    • 60 assorted Cliff bars
    • 2 pounds of roasted almonds
    • 2 pounds of pistachios
  • Carbs
    • 9-lbs brown Jasmin rice
    • 3-lbs quinoa
    • 14 cans of beans
    • 4 cans of giant beans in tomato sauce
  • Alcohol (One beer in the afternoon and one Sundowner, max)
    • 56 assorted Boatswain beers from Trader Joes
    • 3, 1-liter Jameson Irish Whiskey
  • Beverages
    • 120 decaf Irish breakfast tea bags
    • 48 green tea bags
    • 50 misc tea bags
    • 60 Emergen-C packets
  • Protein
    • 2 cans turkey spam
    • 9 cans of tuna
    • 1 can Roast beef
  • Canned Fruits and Veggies
    • 2 cans pineapple
    • 6 cans of green chilies
  • Fresh Fruits and Veggies
    • Nothing yet, but I plan on adding potatoes, red and white onions, some sort of squash, oranges and whatever else I find at a farmer’s market. The Boat Galley* is my reference source for most of these ideas.
  • Cooking Supplies; As for cooking, I use a Forespare Mini-Galley 2000 sea-swing stove, a duel-fuel, single burner portable stove*, and a GoSun Sport* stove.
    • 36 packets chicken stock
    • 14 coconut oil packets for cooking
    • 1 jar virgin olive oil
    • 1 jar balsamic vinegar
    • 1 jar soy sauce
    • 4 types of Tobasco sauce
    • Mix of spices

More fresh provisions will be bought in Ensenada, Mexico when I clear into the country. I want a 30-day supply so that I don’t have to worry about anything while meandering down Baja’s Pacific coastline.
